02 Our Insight | The hypothesis
There is no copy-paste in civic education.
Every place has different problems, a different administration, and a different distance between its teenagers and its politics. The Setagaya Mock Ward Mayoral Election is not the Adachi model carried over. It researches Setagaya's own problems, builds relationships with the ward office, the board of education, the election commission and local organizations from scratch, and redesigns civic education for that city specifically.
It is also the first test of whether what we built is a mechanism that can be taken elsewhere rather than something that only worked in Adachi. Alongside it we are standardizing the operating know-how and turning it into materials.
Researching the local problems
Designing the experience from Setagaya's own problems and from what its teenagers actually live with.
Building the relationships
Starting from nothing with the ward office, the board of education, the election commission and local organizations.
Testing whether it travels
Standardizing the manuals and materials, and finding out what a route to the rest of the country looks like.
