The Clean Education Division delivered the outreach class Osouji-tai: Protect Your Neighborhood to three fifth-grade classes at Adachi Municipal Adachi Elementary School.
It opened with a high school member who had studied abroad describing the culture shock of how public space looked there, and reconsidering what is distinctive about Japanese public space and school buildings — and why taking cleaning seriously, as the work of protecting where you live, matters.
In the second half we demonstrated how to handle a broom and a cloth, and the children practiced holding the broom down as they swept and wringing the cloth vertically. Making the dirt in their own classroom visible got them to look again at their usual cleaning time and think about improving it.
We design the class around each school's cleaning policy and what it actually needs. Get in touch.
