The stump speeches at last.
With the superintendent of education, the chair of the election commission and many other observers watching, six parties gave six very different, young and forceful speeches.
Building a ward high school; greening Kita-senju station. Ideas with a dynamism that is exactly what a student election is for — and which took even the experts by surprise.
What each team proposed
An Adachi where everyone can shine
A safer, easier Adachi to live in
A ward high school built around what you love
An Adachi you would stay in for life
Safety equals streetscape
Starting at the river: from cooperating to creating together
After the speeches, the election commission led participants, assembly members and observers through the real voting procedure, and the count was carried out with the students holding their breath.
The result
Winner: the Shining Adachi Y Party
Runner-up: the Crime Prevention Party
Aozora Writing Class Prize (sponsor's award): the New Era Party
The prizes were book vouchers of ¥30,000, ¥10,000 and ¥10,000.
We also surveyed participants on their sense of a stake in politics and on the active-learning curriculum we designed. We will report the detailed findings and what participants said in due course.

A student organization working on civic education and teenage participation in public life, driven by the gap in who gets opportunities. Our mission: every teenager should get to meet the person they have not yet become. Around forty high school and university students from Tokyo and the three neighbouring prefectures run it. Our programs include the Mock Ward Mayoral Election — held in the ward office and the assembly chamber, taking participants from drafting policy through candidacy to the count — and Osouji-tai, which builds a sense of ownership over shared space through cleaning. More than 1,000 people have now learned how democracy feels from the inside.
